My name is Addie, and I’m Morgan’s mom. It’s been about 2 years since Morgan shared her true identity with me, and we’ve been walking this path together ever since. I’m not sure whether to say I’m a typical mom or not; I’m certainly typical in the sense that I would fight a pack of meth-crazed hyenas for my kids, and maybe that’s where the typical ends. If it is, I’m cool with that. Being ok with being a little different is something I really like about myself, and something I love about Morgan.
Speaking of Morgan, she was born under a different name, and lived under an assumed identity for 29 years. She’s smart, funny, and brave as hell. The last 2 years have brought us both a lot of learning and new experiences, and I’m sure she’ll be happy to share what she’s learned. I forgot to mention it, but she’s also kind and generous.
We’re starting this blog as a place to share our perspectives, from Morgan’s perspective and direct experience transitioning, and from my point of view as a parent watching it all unfold and trying my best to help and support her. Of course, every journey of transition is unique, and at the same time, there are commonalities, too. We want to share our experiences with you, openly and honestly.
In our future posts, we’ll cover all sorts of relevant topics, such as: mental health, HRT, self-care, navigating family dynamics, building a wardrobe, managing a transition in the workplace, building a supportive community, and more.
